I enjoyed Athens. I was lucky enough to be invited to stay with a friend for a week, then I went to Spetses for the weekend. It was a wonderful trip.

My first night I discovered that I had booked a hotel in the hood. I daftly did not scope out the area as it was a last minute booking just for one night…my first impressions of Athens were not the most favourable. Luckily I met a British father and son while I was sunbathing of the roof. The hotel itself was rather nice. The dad asked me if I had done much exploring and whether I had been down any of the side streets near the hotel yet. I told him I haven’t, and his reply was “Yeah, um, don’t. Lots of people shooting up.”. I appreciated the warning.

I ventured out and went exploring. I watched the sunset from the rocks near the acropolis, apparently a classic date spot. I went to a cool bar and met and old Greek geezer who gave me some cool recommendations:

After one night slumming it I was picked up by my friend and enjoyed the high life in Glyfada. We went to some nice spots including:

Ark Bar Island Club Fish restaurant Gyros place Clumsy’s Other cool bar Cool beach

I also visited the National Gallery which contained some cool shit. Highlights included Ghiko. Sadly the third floor containing the contemporary stuff and the shop was closed. I love a good museum shop :(

Overall would recommend as long as you’re not staying in central Athens. And deffo go to an island
